• Abstract

This thorough investigation examines the complex relationship between the different components of the cervical spine, such as the nerves, bones, joints, and muscles. These components work together under the control of the brain and spinal cord. The study focuses on two conditions that can arise from excessive smartphone use: Text Neck Syndrome and SMS Thumb. Text Neck Syndrome occurs when the neck is bent forward during phone use, causing discomfort and structural issues. Research shows a significant link between prolonged smartphone use and an increased risk of text neck syndrome, which can lead to degenerative changes in the cervical spine. SMS Thumb, also known as Texting Thumb, is caused by repetitive thumb movements during texting, resulting in inflammation in the thumb. The study highlights the potential impact of these conditions on mental, social, and physical well-being. It emphasizes the importance of promoting awareness about proper posture and implementing ergonomic practices to minimize the long-term effects of these conditions. By reviewing relevant literature, the article supports its claims and reveals the intricate connections between smartphone addiction, musculoskeletal discomfort, and impaired function in the neck and hand. This comprehensive exploration serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between our bodies and the advancements in technology in today's digital era. It emphasizes the need for a holistic approach to technology use that prioritizes overall well-being.
